Helen Wearmouth

Funeral Celebrant

Elegant, individual funeral ceremonies throughout the North East of England.

Independent Funeral Celebrant.

As an independent celebrant, my philosophies and beliefs are immaterial; the ceremony will reflect what you believe.

The ceremonies I write focus on the person: their life, their dreams, their deeds. By honouring your loved one in this way, you are choosing a ceremony which celebrates who they were, rather than focussing on their death.

For many, belief is a complex matter. It’s not ‘on’ or ‘off’; it’s not black or white.
This is when an independent celebrant is most appropriate and is why my services can include religious aspects such as hymns or prayer, spiritual elements such as meditations, or neither.

What happens when you hire me?

When you hire me, I contact you to arrange a meeting anywhere you are comfortable; your home or a café, maybe. Please invite along anyone who may wish to contribute.
After listening to every detail you all tell me about the person who has died, I will send you a summary of the facts and details.
Sometimes, seeing the summary can prompt more thoughts and memories. If so… Great! The more stories and memories you provide, the better.
The ceremony I write and conduct for your loved one will not be a one-size-fits-all service. It will be written specific to them.

A relative/friend wants to speak at the service.

Sometimes, people want to take part in the service. This is a beautiful gesture. Should anyone wish to do so, I will give any help they may need sourcing, or writing their material.
Even the most confident, seasoned speakers can find themselves too overwhelmed on the day. Caring for a person you’ve so recently lost can make speaking difficult. Rest assured, I will be ready to step-in at any time and speak on your behalf, with the utmost discretion.
